EYFS 2024 > Staff taking medication/other substances > 3.21
In order to keep children safe when they are in our care, we will ensure that no member of staff nor anyone else who has contact with your child whilst at our nursery, is under the influence of alcohol or any other substance.
Any staff member who is on duty and taking medication which may affect their ability to care for the children within the nursery, will seek medical advice and only be permitted to work directly with the children in our care upon written confirmation that their ability to care for the children will not be impaired.
If a parent or guardian has consumed alcohol during the day (for example a work leaving event, Christmas party, or whilst entertaining clients), and is due to collect their child while under the influence, we would prefer it if arrangements are made for another responsible adult to collect the child. If we are contacted in advance, we may be able to delay the pick-up time, or drop-off your child as an alternative.
In accordance with the EYFS welfare requirements produced by the Department of Education we have a no smoking or vaping policy on the premises or outside space at any time.
We will not take the children into smoky environments and will avoid places that permit smoking wherever possible.
Drugs and alcohol are now more readily available to younger children. If we have any concerns that your child may be drinking alcohol, taking drugs or smoking we will discuss the matter with you immediately.
We will then work with you to support your child, however we reserve the right to terminate our contract with immediate effect if we are concerned that your child’s behaviour due to drugs/alcohol may be putting the other children in our care at risk.

Clap, clap, clap
Children at Little Darling Childcare love singing. And with a wealth of evidence published by neuroscientists, it is proven that music making in early years hones, grows and improves neural networks like no other activity. This particular rhyme is courtesy of Boogie Mites (www.boogiemites.co.uk).
