This month we had our graduation ceremony for the children transitioning to reception school. All parents and grandparents of the child were invited for a ceremony that took two hours followed by lunch.
We also released our butterflies. So magical to see them metamorphosise from caterpillar (the larva), (caterpillar) the pupa (chrysalis or cocoon) and into a butterfly.
Our other key activities were:
UFO Day
USA Independence Day
Chocolate Day
Teddy Bears Picnic Day
Graduation Day
Butterfly Lifecycle
Shark Day
Cherry Day
Preservation Awareness Week (jam making)
Tiger Day
Day of Friendship
Butterfly Lifecycle - deep dive into learning outcomes
This is such a fascinating and educational experience for our children. It not only teaches them about the natural world, but also helps develop a variety of skills such as observation, language, and fine motor skills. Here are some examples of the learning achieved in this activity.
Understanding lifecycles - children learnt the stages of a butterfly's life cycle: egg, caterpillar (larva), chrysalis (pupa), and butterfly (adult)
Developing language β we were able to introduce and reinforce new words like "caterpillar," "chrysalis," "metamorphosis," and "butterfly"
Observation skills β we had activities to encourage children to observe changes and differences at each stage of the cycle
Understanding the World - foster an appreciation of nature and living things around them
