Digital technologies such as a smart phones, cameras and other electronic devices with imaging and sharing capabilities are effective tools that we use in our practice. For example, we may take photographs or video recordings of your child whilst in our care. Such images are taken to illustrate the activities your child is taking part in. For example, we may take photographs during outings or whilst doing some creative work.
To comply with the Data Protection Act 1998, we need your permission before we can photograph or make any recordings of your child whilst in our care.
Some of these images may be used on our website, shown to an Ofsted inspector or other approved persons to illustrate how we care for your child.
Please note that websites can be viewed throughout the world and not just where UK law applies.
This permission is valid for twenty-one years from the date you sign it. The consent will automatically expire after this time.
Staff will take photos, using smart phones, cameras and other electronic devices with imaging and sharing capabilities, of the children in our care if we have agreement from the parent /carer. The nursery smart phone has a password to protect entry.
We will download photographs onto the computer for the sole use of the nursery, for example to add into a child’s learning journey. Please note that when your child’s photograph or video is taken, it is likely to have other children in the photograph or video as well. Whilst we will always have permission from the other children’s parents for them to appear with your child(ren), by signing this consent, you also acknowledge and agree to your child(ren) appearing in any photographs or video shared with other children’s parents (for example to illustrate something in their learning journey folders).
Where our teachers and staff take photos, they will only take photos of the children using a nursery approved smart phone, cameras and other electronic devices with imaging and sharing capabilities or any other device approved by the nursery. Our teachers and staff do not use their own phone for making or receiving calls whilst in the nursery, except in an emergency. All teachers and staff deposit their mobile phone and other electronic devices with imaging and sharing capabilities in the nursery office so that they do not have access to them whilst working.
Parents (or any other persons) coming to the nursery, during childminded hours, will also not be able to take photos or videos. This is to protect all other children in the nursery.
Parents (or assistants) will not be allowed to take photos of children during any outings that they join us on. Only we will take photos and videos and then share them with parents.
We will not use the personal details or full names (which means first name and surname) of your child in a photographic image on video, on our website or in any of our other printed publications without good reason.
We will not include personal e-mail or postal addresses, or telephone or fax numbers on video, on our website or in other printed publications. We may use group photographs or footage with very general labels, such as “a science activity” or “making Christmas decorations”.
We will only use images of your child when suitably dressed, to reduce the risk of such images being used inappropriately. See our Child Protection Policy for how we use photographs to record existing injury or alleged abuse.
We promote the safe use of technologies in our setting by children, including smart phones, iPad or similar type of devices, and cameras.
